OPERATING A WEBSHOP WITH HIGH-QUALITY PRODUCT DATA FROM A SINGLE SOURCE
Swisscom is the leading telecommunications company and one of the largest IT service providers in Switzerland with annual revenues of CHF 2.8 billion. The Swisscom ICT B2B Shop, which is available to corporate customers as part of the Swisscom Business Center, offers various ICT products that complement Swisscom's services. Swisscom acts here as a reseller of well-known brands. As part of activities to internalise the implementation and operation of this webshop, an evaluation of partner companies was carried out in order to have the content management process and the provision of the product data carried out by an external provider. The choice fell on the Onedot platform, which has been offering these activities as a core service for several years. For Swisscom, complete outsourcing of the entire product data onboarding process, a high degree of automation and high data quality were particularly important.
A high level of automation is central to product data in the ICT sector, as hardware products usually have numerous technical features, data sheets, supported interfaces, matching accessory products, etc. Swisscom corporate customers should be able to select suitable hardware products and services quickly and effectively from a range of over 120,000 articles via this webshop. If possible, product master data should be obtained from a single content provider, transformed to Swisscom-specific data structures and formats, and delivered automatically. The same should also be done with availability information and prices from the various providers. 1WorldSync was selected as the content provider, and the category structure of the products was also adopted.
With its partnership with Onedot, Swisscom has set itself the goal of acquiring the entire provision of product master data, availability information and prices from a single source in a highly automated and reliable manner. This means that the entire web shop can be operated on a uniform database via a connection to the Onedot platform, which keeps costs low and ensures consistently high data quality.
