Trust was at the heart of DMEXCO 2019 and forms the foundation of a society that is becoming increasingly digital. When it comes to handling data and disrupting working practices, the trust of customers and society is one of the most important prerequisites for a company's sustained success. 1,000 exhibitors had the opportunity to gain this trust in their vision from the visitors during the two-day trade fair in Cologne.
The trade fair opened its doors on Wednesday and offered visitors the latest trends in digital business, marketing and innovation in seven halls spread over two days. Onedot was on site on Wednesday and asked about the latest developments in the industry. First of all, the topic of product data seems to gain more and more relevance, as the numerous stands of PIM vendors and complementary solutions were well attended throughout, the latest trend being the Akeneo based concept of "Product Experience Management", PEM for short. This extends the product information with the element of "experience". They are processed additionally to the conventional information and fed into the PIM (Product Information Management). This leads to improved product displays in the online shop and consequently to higher sales. The process will increase the richness and complexity of the onboarding process, making the service that Onedot offers its customers even more important.
In addition to the data area, the Future Park in Hall 9 offered a new format for start-ups and new-tech companies to present their solutions. Topics such as AI chatbots, performance marketing and FinTech have been very popular with young entrepreneurs for quite some time and will probably accompany us into next year.
What distinguishes these brands from their competitors and traditional companies was demonstrated in one of over 400 presentations or various workshops. Their role models, experienced and internationally established entrepreneurs, shared their recipes for success and visions with their audience on the Conference Stage. In addition to personalities such as Jimmy Wales (Co-Founder of Wikipedia) or Stephanie Buscemi (CMO of SalesForce), the presentation by Harley Finkelstein (COO of Shopify) was of particular interest to us, as he touched on "A new era for the retail industry", a topic in which we also play an important role.
Together with Ben Francis (founder of Gymshark), Harley illustrated the evolution of retail from its origins to Omni-Channel retailing, which for them is the key to today's success for retailers of all sizes. They provided important input for the successful implementation of a consistent brand image on all channels and we have summarized the most important points for you below:
With this additional knowledge, good conversations and exciting impressions, the first day of the fair came to an end and our conclusion was mostly positive. We would like to thank all our customers, interested parties and partners for the exciting discussions and are already looking forward to next year's DMEXCO.
